Holy Spirit on Pentecost

Church of the Holy Spirit’s Sunday School starts on Sunday, September 12th, 2010

Looking for a wonderful Sunday School program for the kids? Consider bringing your children to our Godly Play and Sunday School classes. In Godly Play, Bible stories are told in a sacred space that is age appropriate for the children. Children learn to enjoy the peace and stillness of their own worship space, which is designed with their needs in mind. They learn how to listen and then respond to the Bible stories with wondering and imagination using art, prayer, song, and the materials used to tell the stories.

The Rev. Lucy Ann Dure says, "The Godly Play approach to religious education is unique in its respect for the religious experience of children. Young children already have an intimate awareness of God and His love. They like to have chances to talk about God and hear the stories of God. The stories of the Bible are helpful for addressing their native fears as well: fears of being alone, getting lost, losing a loved one. Our Sunday School program gives them the experience of enjoying God’s peace, where they can hear God listening with them to their fears and reassuring them."

For older children, the Bible stories are taught with reflection upon a current news topic, or a situation in the young people’s lives which underscores the continuing relevance of God’s word in their lives.
